<jonsjava_> hey all
*** jonsjava_ is now known as jonsjava
*** jonsjava_ is now known as jonsjava
<jonsjava> anybody home?
<waynew> yup
<jonsjava> hey
<jonsjava> been waiting on someone to show up
<waynew> hows it going?
<jonsjava> not bad
<jonsjava> Live in conway, maintain linux servers, so I decided to give this group a shot
<waynew> I go to school @ UCA
<jonsjava> nice. I work for the utility company (please don't log the company name)
<waynew> heh
<jonsjava> internet department. fun job
<waynew> yeah?
<jonsjava> yup
<waynew> I'm interning at the highway department
<waynew> no linux there though :(
<jonsjava> lol
<jonsjava> sry
<jonsjava> highway department. that's out on Irby, right?
<waynew> yeah
<waynew> uh... I work at state HQ down off Baseline and I-30
<jonsjava> ah, ok
<waynew> a little further away ;)
<jonsjava> live in LR, but go to UCA
<jonsjava> got it
<waynew> Maumelle, actually, so a little closer
<waynew> what languages do you work with?
<jonsjava> php/bash mostly scripting junk
<waynew> fun times?
<jonsjava> sry. jumping back and forth in IRC
<jonsjava> not bad
<waynew> I'm not sure how much I'd enjoy server maintenance. I used to think I'd be all for it
<waynew> I guess it could be fun - I do enjoy solving problems
<waynew> I'm just not sure if those are the kind of problems I really enjoy solving...
<jonsjava> what do you enjoy solving, then?
<waynew> well, I like filling needs
<jonsjava> not sure I follow
<waynew> for instance, we're sort of unofficial tech support for the highway departement
<waynew> *department
<jonsjava> you'd live my job, then
<waynew> and usually that consists of trying to get users to take a screenshot and email it
<jonsjava> I maintain servers, the wireless around town, troubleshoot customer issues, plan new features, and implement ideas I come up with without asking
<waynew> I had some downtime on the main project I'm working on
<jonsjava> we get a lot of leeway
<waynew> and so I wrote a quick program that takes a screenshot and emails it to a given user, along with a bug report that the user fills out
<waynew> basically - automating a process that used to be... not-o-matic
<jonsjava> I wrote a VMWare backup solution that works in PHP and batch scripts
<waynew> I guess it's just a matter of not being used to it - I get nervous thinking about gigs of data and million-record SQL tables :P
<jonsjava> our LAN guy brought our fiber down for a while, and nobody complained. accidents happen. just gotta be careful
<waynew> heh..yeah, I discovered the reason behind begin transaction ... commit transaction on SQL Server when I executed an UPDATE and forgot to specify the WHERE
<jonsjava> lmao. oops
<jonsjava> I'm guessing you're using MSSQL
<waynew> yup
<jonsjava> MySQL here
<waynew> ahtd is MS only
<jonsjava> we just got stored procedures
<jonsjava> MySQL is behind in some areas
<jonsjava> where is everybody?
<jonsjava> you there?
<waynew> I don't know
<jonsjava> lol
<jonsjava> is that the answer to "you there?"
<waynew> nah, I got a fussy baby
<jonsjava> ah, ok. My son is in bed
<jonsjava> we have another on the way, but for now, just the one
<waynew> ours is 9 wks
<jonsjava> aww. miss them at that age
<jonsjava> they are so peaceful *yeah right, you are thinking, but wait until they are 4*
<jonsjava> our next one is due in January
<waynew> congrats
<waynew> know what it is yet?
<jonsjava> not yet
<jonsjava> sry for the delay
<jonsjava> welcome MarchHair
<waynew> are you hoping for anything?
<jonsjava> I want 3. one of each
<jonsjava> actually, we have a boy, so now, a girl would be nice
<MarchHair> hey jonsjava
<waynew> we have 3
<jonsjava> wow
<waynew> twins at 4.5, and 9 weeks - all girls
<jonsjava> my condolences
<waynew> we were hoping for a boy... but turns out she's awesome too
<waynew> heh
<jonsjava> you have a surplus of girls. want my boy? *lol*
<waynew> lol
<jonsjava> wow. the last time I chatted, bush was starting his 2nd term
<MarchHair> hmm.... arranged marriages already? :)
<jonsjava> no, he can have the boy. we named him Loki
<waynew> heh
<waynew> sweet
<jonsjava> he just can't go to Hi (can't spell that island state)
<jonsjava> Loki means "rose" there
<waynew> that's really funny
<TommyT> anybody still around?
<kwadroke> anyone still around?
<kwadroke> guess not.
