<heathen> allo
<Puntsok> This is Chris Walker in Bloomington. I've come to a few of the BLUG meetings (Bloomington). I justed want to say hi!
<Puntsok> I'm now using Ubuntu 6.10 and seeing how it handles Unicode Tibetan characters
<Puntsok> So far, I'm not having a lot of luck, as I probably need a more recent version of Pango, and need to compile or otherwise configure the applications to use pango to display the complex characters correctly.
<po0f> Which application? Any in particular, or all of them?
<Puntsok> howdy... Firefox in particular. Just experimenting with a small educational application called KVocTrain (vocabulary flash cards) I noticed that complex script rendering *is* working if the application is calling pango correctly.
<Puntsok> I've been searching around Ubuntu help forums and there's a bit of discussion there, I'll send the link...

<Puntsok> I'm fairly new to Linux... but I'm a quick study :)
<Puntsok> I was successful in bringing in a Tibetan keyboard method in (which is a separate issue from correct Unicode Tibetan screen rendering)
<Puntsok> I was a module for use in SCIM called "Keyman for Linux."
<Puntsok> Keyman was originally a Windows application that used it's own scripting language for user defined keyboard methods
<po0f> Have you tried looking at the mozilla-firefox-locale-* packages for an appropriate one?
<Puntsok> I defined one for Tibetan some time ago, and was getting some positive feedback from people using Linux that the keyboard script was working, so now I see for myself.
<Puntsok> A local for Tibetan... I did check the suggest link for Firefox 2 and didn't find a Tibetan localization. I remember in the forum that someone said if an approriate locale was set then Pango would kick in?
<Puntsok> I guess Firefox was made not to use Pango because it ran slower that way.
<po0f> I think you're just going to have to google a Tibetan locale and create one yourself.
<Puntsok> Okay, thanx... I'll tackle this one eventually! cheers.
<SimonAnibal> Is it my imagination, or is the nick list a little longer today...
<SimonAnibal> Hey there, po0f!
<SimonAnibal> I'm glad to see you outside of the forums
<SimonAnibal> Well, goodbye all
<po0f> Whoops.
<heathen> hello
<po0f> Sorry, was in afk land.
<heathen> im always in afk land
<po0f> Me too, I need more coffee.
<po0f> brb
