<theidiotthatisme> Howdy
<Vorian> hey theidiotthatisme
<Vorian> and cpradio
<cpradio> hi
<theidiotthatisme> :-)
<cpradio> anyone have any experience trying to install compiz or beryl on AMD64? I am playing with herd4 in a VM right now, and I want to see if it is going to be worth my efforts to eventually upgrade to fiesty or just wait
<cpradio> anyone else know that apt-get had tab completion?
<chad> hello all
<theidiotthatisme> Hi chad
<theidiotthatisme> cpradio: I wish I could help you but I dont have any experience with Beryl
<Brady_M> I got beryl
<chad> i got a rash
<cpradio> well, i am willing to try either. I am just having a hard time getting it to run on AMD64
<Brady_M> cpradio: no tab completion naw, doesn't work that was
<Brady_M> cpradio: I got an AMD
<Brady_M> cpradio: what distro of Ubuntu do you have?
<cpradio> I am trying fiesty-herd4 and I swear apt-get in the command line has auto-completion of packages
<cpradio> or I am going crazy, which could be true. I had a very long day of work
<Vorian> <cpradio> anyone have any experience trying to install compiz or beryl on AMD64? I am playing with herd4 in a VM right now, and I want to see if it is going to be worth my efforts to eventually upgrade to fiesty or just wait
<Vorian> beryl
<Vorian> but wait for an install
<cpradio> apt-get doesn't have beryl for AMD64 :(
<Vorian> dual 64 /me has
<Brady_M> cpradio: problem is not on your end CP. I tried ti myself. The problem is the host in the uk which the beryl install is located. It faield to download the beryl files and never completes. I think you gotta pass on Beryl till they kink that out
<Vorian> cpradio, intall the x86 version
<Vorian> Its fuggin fast!
<chad> hehe....fuggin
<Vorian> :)
<Vorian> Its like hugging, but more intense
<cpradio> I have ran beryl on x86 just for kicks and giggles, and I liked it, but its a pain in the @ss to get it on AMD64. I prefer not do any chroot setups as I really hate doubling the OS
<Vorian> did you install the x86 or x86/64?
<cpradio> I haven't installed either yet. right now apt-get is running all the upgrades, so I am waiting to see what that may fix
<cpradio> it has to upgrade 211 and install 6 ... I am on a cable connection, but its going to take a bit of time.
<chad> i actually got liquid weather on my computer!
<chad> quite an achievement
<cpradio> did fiesty remove CTRL+TAB to switch desktops?
<cpradio> or is my keyboard messed up in the VM?
<chad> wish I could help cpradio
<cpradio> from a first sight, fiesty is interesting, the tab-complete for apt-get is awesome. I can confirm this. I do not have pingus installed, but if I type sudo apt-get install ping and hit tab twice, it lists pingus... That is just sweet and is going to be killer, I have wanted that for a long time
<chad> very cool

<tjfontaine> :)
<chad> canton akron massillon users group?
<tjfontaine> canton alliance massilon users group, I thought, but I could be mistaken
<tjfontaine> akrons a bit north for it
<chad> ah yes
<chad> dummy me
<chad> you are correct
<cpradio> sorry, having a server problem with .htaccess, visit http://cpradio.org/images/ and do a save link as or save target as
<tjfontaine> oh, kde adept stuff, no help from me then sowwy
<chad> i find an image I would like as my wallpaper, I right click on it, say set as desktop
<chad> and it doesn't do it!!
<chad> what gives?
<tjfontaine> it hates you
<chad> it does
<chad> i'm not too fond of it right now either
<cpradio> that cant be much worse than seeing that stupid choose an integer between -20 and 19 on each package install
<rrittenhouse> so what happened to herd 5 today?
<cpradio> i was wondering the same thing. I have yet to see a release announcement
<rrittenhouse> and on the fridge the herd 4 post is at the top when there was another post above it?! who knows
<cpradio> anyone know where the lock file is stored for apt? The adept package handler locked up and even after a reboot of the VM it states it is currently in use
<cpradio> nm, dpkg --configure -a fixed it
<chad> guys, do you know if there is a simple wireless manager I can add to my panel or desktop?
<rrittenhouse> i use gnome-network-manager i think it is
<rrittenhouse> http://www.gnome.org/projects/NetworkManager/
<rrittenhouse> now that i think about it its in feisty and i didnt have it before in edgy
<rrittenhouse> maybe its actually installed by default in fesity
<chad> i just got knetworkmanager
<chad> since I use kde
<bonbonthejon> chad: good, another kde person
<rrittenhouse> :P
<rrittenhouse> idk ive always used kde until ubuntu. I guess it just stuck
<chad> I had ubuntu for awhlie
<chad> awhile
<chad> decided to try kubuntu
<rrittenhouse> i want to sometime
<chad> i like it so far
<chad> just have a couple stupid things I can't figure out
<chad> but I am new to linux
<chad> so its to be expected I guess
<bonbonthejon> chad: what cant you figure out
<chad> well...one thing that is driving me bonkers
<chad> I find a wallpaper I like, right click on it and say 'set to desktop', but it doesnt do it
<bonbonthejon> chad: copy it to ~/.kde/share/wallpapers/
<bonbonthejon> chad: it will then show up in the list
<chad> ah okay
<chad> is that the preferred method?
<bonbonthejon> chad: yeah
<chad> cool, thank you
<chad> also, how can I make it so that liquid weather automatically starts up next time I reboot?
<cpradio> night all. I got past the 211 upgrades now for fiesty herd 4. tomorrow I will try tackling beryl. thanks to all who helped.
<chad> night
<bonbonthejon> chad: liquid weather is superkaramba, right? there should be a way to load it everytime
<chad> yes it is
<chad> is there a session manager or something I have to go into?
<bonbonthejon> chad: there was, I dont know where they hid it in the new settings
<chad> those bastages
<chad> i thought someone said to do kcontrol from the terminal
<chad> but I still cant find it
<bonbonthejon> chad: have you opened kcontrol?
<chad> yes
<bonbonthejon> chad: under kde components, there should be session manager
<chad> hmm
<chad> ahh...okay
<chad> man...i missed it the first time
<chad> thanks
<chad> do you know why I could all this stuff when I type kcontrol from a terminal?
<chad> chad@chad-laptop:~$ kcontrol
<chad> X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 168
<chad> Major opcode: 145
<chad> Minor opcode: 3
<chad> Resource id: 0x0
<bonbonthejon> chad: yeah, that happens all the time, dont worry about it
<chad> Failed to open device
<chad> X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 168
<chad> Major opcode: 145
<chad> Minor opcode: 3
<chad> Resource id: 0x0
<chad> Failed to open device
<chad> chad@chad-laptop:~$
<chad> then after it does all that, it does actually open
<chad> ah okay
<chad> i figured I had screwed something up
<bonbonthejon> chad: nope, it happens all the time, any other things you need help with
<chad> hmm..thats about all I can think of right now
<chad> thank you
<bonbonthejon> yup
<chad> well I'm gonna retire for the night
<chad> thanks everyone
<bonbonthejon> night
<rrittenhouse> i think they forgot about herd 5? :P
<tjfontaine> if anyone forgot about about anything, debian forgot about etch
<tjfontaine> forgot about dre
<bonbonthejon> tjfontaine: good song
