<loudmouthman> well God bless gnome partion editor , a very linux reluctant client of mine resorted to using it after he installed exhange on the wrong partition <grin> . It reminded me of "now get out of that"
<mattl> heh. best graph ever.
<mattl> http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/42589000/gif/_42589995_weight_perception203.gif
<Seeker`> lo loudmouthman
<loudmouthman> hey seeker
* loudmouthman marvels at the miracle of client hindsight! some clients <grrrrr>
<loudmouthman> right off to clients again <sigh> . they want exhange because they need shared calendars and addressbooks ! and sunbird aint cutting it . grrrr
<Seeker`> beryl is borked again
<popey> </unsurprised>
<mattl> Seeker`: what video card do you use?
<dotwaffle> be a man! Use your desktop without 3D acceleration! (he says, writing from iTerm in OSX)
<popey> uh-oh
<popey> incoming! :0
<mattl> popey: :p
<popey> ;)
<Seeker`> mattl: intel 945 i think
<mattl> yay.
<mattl> popey: see.
<popey> heh
<popey> 53
<GazzaK> eeek, I sent an email to my local site, all staff, and forgot to turn off read receipts, eeek, what a idiot I am
<mattl> read recipts?
<GazzaK> emails saying "so and so has read your email"
<GazzaK> turned on by default in lotus notes
<Seeker`> GazzaK: How many people on site?
<GazzaK> 150 odd
<medders> a filter should sort that out shouldn't it?
<medders> or at least hide the problem :)
<mattl> GazzaK: so you're the Lotus Notes user.
<GazzaK> and I also forgot to alter the "reply to" address to something stupid like "rtfm" so I'll probably get stupid replys too
<GazzaK> MattJ, there has to be like one company still using it (it's poo)
<GazzaK> oops, mattl
<MattJ> ^^
<popey> GazzaK: sorry, should get to your request today (lug.org.uk)
<GazzaK> yayayyayayayayaayyyyy
<popey> mattl: whats the status of mp3 these days? license wise?
<mattl> popey: can i have awesome.glug.org.uk ?
<GazzaK> I got the okay from the current lugmaster :-)
<mattl> popey: still patented.
<popey> ok, ta, saw you talking about it recently
<mattl> yeah, i'm not especially worried about it, personally.
<mattl> but you can playback mp3s with free software.
<Seeker`> when does the patent expire?
<popey> depends on the term, which depends on the patent
<popey> http://mp3licensing.com/patents/index.html
<popey> http://mp3licensing.com/licensees/index.asp lots of people have licensed it
<mattl> mp3 is becoming less relevant.
<popey> very very slowly

<mattl> is it?
<DaveMorris> yep
<mattl> i'd better eat all the leftover batter in my flat before lent.
<popey> mmmm batter
<popey> reminds me of a rude viz story which I clearly cant talk about here or tsmithe will start saying !ohmy all over the place
<popey> !ohmy
<ubotwo> Please watch your language and keep this channel family friendly.
<DaveMorris> well we just need an adult bot, which people subscribe to and tou send it to the bot via pm, and the bot then sends it to you via pm
<popey> or #ubuntu-adult :)
<gord> bleh, walking whist holding coffee and sneezing is not a good combination
<popey> heh
* Seeker` has already been practicing making pancakes
<popey> Sophie was alarmed the other day when she sneezed and farted at the same time
* popey will make some pancakes later
<Seeker`> I had some on friday, and on sunday
<mattl> popey: This is where you do the punchline and say Sophie's your pet hamster/parrot.
<mattl> !ohmy
<ubotwo> Please watch your language and keep this channel family friendly.
<gord> last year I pretty much made it pancake month, felt a bit ill at the end of it so this year its just pancake day -_-
<mattl> heh
<Seeker`> gord: I know what you mean
<mattl> i choose to eschew christian events like today and instead support days that my own church has.
<popey> I pick and choose the bits and pieces from other peoples religions that I like
<popey> (like eating turkey and pancakes [not together])
<popey> and throw away the bits I dont like
<gord> I generally just chose the holidays, the rest seems to just be bad stuff
<popey> (believing in God etc)
<DaveMorris> I'm like popey
<DaveMorris> if I don't believe in Heaven and Hell I can't go to Hell. :)
<popey> Richard Dawkins does a good talk on that
<popey> aaanyway
<gord> if theres one thing that keeps an irc channel happy, its not having talks about religion ;)
<popey> GazzaK: about colchester.. prv when you have a moment
* GazzaK bought pancake making stuff yesterday :-)
<DaveMorris> my teeth are gonna rot with all the syrup :)
<mattl> GazzaK: eggs and flour? :p
<DaveMorris> and milk
<gord> bleh. syrups an american thing. its lemon from a squeesy lemon shaped bottle and sugar
<GazzaK> and lemon juice
<GazzaK> and maple syrup
<DaveMorris> yeah, I have lemon and sugar on every other one, and Llyons Golden Syrup on the other
<gord> hurrarh, Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe is on tonight. love that show
<popey> ditto
<gord> hrmm aparently I missed an episode, this is why we need a bbc net service thats drm free
<DaveMorris> cough torrent cough
<Seeker`> gord: Fresh lemon is better. it doesn't taste like washing up liquid
<gord> nothing that has come in a bottle shaped like the item its supposed to represent has ever tasted better than its natural counterpart
<DaveMorris> apart from that fake dog poo I bet
<mattl> DaveMorris: that er.. wasn't fake.

<krateein> Hey everyone, I know this isn't the support channel but i just seem to get ignored there so any help would be appreciated. I'm having trouble installing Linux on my old machine. I Wiped the hard Drive of windows but when insert the CD (it is definitely burned correctly) nothing happens. I just get the message Verifying DMI Pool data ... Invalid system disk replace the disk and then press any key. Is it because i only have 64
<ormiret> krateein: sounds liek your mahine isn't booting from CD check the boot order in the bios.
<neuro_> ormiret: see #ubuntu
<neuro_> am answering there :>
<ormiret> OK :)
<neuro_> i deleted my ubuntu VM at work today :(
<neuro_> wasn't using it, was chewing up 8 gig of space on my fc6 workstation :(
* GazzaK hugs popey
<LoudMouthMan> Hey Peeps,
<LoudMouthMan> Hey Gazzak is that you starting a lug up there ?
<GazzaK> yep
<popey> evening all
<PriceChild> LoudMouthMan, still no word on when the form ML will be created which is annoying me
<PriceChild> *forum
<LoudMouthMan> indeed.
<mdke> you decided to go with a forum in the end?
<LoudMouthMan> no , nothing decided yet.
<mdke> a trial run?
<constrictor> how do i record video streams
<constrictor> ?
<LoudMouthMan> mdke pricechild and I are just seeing what if anything will / can be done on a seperate list/group/forum.
<PriceChild> boo :)
<PriceChild> mdke, yeah I'm hopefully getting an ubuntu-uk-forums mailing list to integrate into a uk subforum.... but still no reply from the ML admins :(
<mdke> ah. Why not try the existing ubuntu-uk mailing list?
<PriceChild> because we don't want to flood it if things are too mad... don't want to annoy existing ML users
<LoudMouthMan> and we wanted to have something Neuro_/Mdke could compare/contrast/report on as well .
<mdke> hmm. You can just send one test message, I'm sure that won't annoy anyone :)
<PriceChild> ubuntu-uk ML users will use ubuntu-uk-forums if they want to... see how well things work
<PriceChild> mdke, oh no we "know" the technology works
<mdke> PriceChild: right, so why the need to test?
<PriceChild> mdke, well do you like the idea of suddenly letting >200,000 forum users loose on your mailing list from the forums?
<mdke> well, I don't mind it personally. But I understand the question
<mdke> I just don't see how a test is going to help people take a view as to the answer
<PriceChild> I just don't wanna have you guys shouting at me if you get flooded :)
<PriceChild> I'd much rather see the level of traffic we get first, then push it on the main list if it seems good
<LoudMouthMan> mdke i dont think people will take a view no the answer I think though if it just gets done then we can agree that it can be trialled/reviewed which is further than we have gotten before.
<LoudMouthMan> and im with Pricechild I want to know what happens before we apply anything as part of a trial / concept
<LoudMouthMan> its about finding ways to communicate and stay open and reach the low hanging fruit and to have answers and share them.
<mdke> PriceChild: but you won't get a realistic idea of the traffic on a test forum
<popey> 19:48 < PriceChild> mdke, well do you like the idea of suddenly letting >200,000 forum users loose on your mailing list from the forums?
<popey> to be fair, that *wont* happen
<PriceChild> popey, yeah i know not every one will be on...
<popey> you are not going to get all 200K users suddenly appear in a UK loco forum
<PriceChild> hardly any compared
<PriceChild> popey, haha yeah I know
<PriceChild> mdke, its not a test forum...
<popey> who needs to be poked to get this done?
<PriceChild> mdke, It will be a normal subforum on ubuntuforums.org like all the others, its just the mailing list that could be temporary
<PriceChild> popey, Im' waiting for a reply from rt@canonical
<popey> admin for the list rather than admin for the forums then?
<PriceChild> yes
<PriceChild> ubuntu-geek can add it in a few minutes when its ready
<mdke> PriceChild: so you are essentially implementing a separate forum to the mailing list, with a view that *possibly* it might be merged with the ML at some stage
<mdke> if it becomes clear that a merge isn't possible for whatever reason, will you close the forum, or keep it running as a separate means of commuication?
<LoudMouthMan> I think we are implementing a seperaet list/forum thingies withthe view to testing the results and the volumes its just an attempt to move things forward.
<PriceChild> mdke, Well that's a choice we don't have to make yet.
<PriceChild> mdke, and all the ubuntu-uk pro ML people can see how well the integrated mailing list works before we make that decisino
<popey> I am interested to see how it copes with non-forum users posting to the ML
* mdke shrugs
<mdke> I would have said just tie it directly to ubuntu-uk and be done with it
<mdke> anyway, gtg now
<popey> ttfn
<PriceChild> hehe :)
<LoudMouthMan> yeah SG-1 is comming <grin>
<PriceChild> cya mdke
<popey> next meeting is tomorrow at 21:00 yes? the /topic is right?
<LoudMouthMan> yeppers

<jamesbrose> Darn more problems with VM workstation!!
<jamesbrose> Getting the error ""Unable to change virtual machine power state: Failed to connect to peer process." when trying to start a VM
<daviey> jamesbrose, did you 'shut down' correctly when you last used it?
<daviey> I had a similar/same error when i killed vmplayer without shutting down
<jamesbrose> daviey, no :/ Although, I get the same error when trying to start a completely new VM
<daviey> jamesbrose, how did you install VM? Is it just vmplayer. Has it ever worked?
<jamesbrose> daviey, Its vm workstation. I used to have VM Server installed, but removed it and installed this.
<jamesbrose> It used to work on server..
<jamesbrose> I will try vm server again
<daviey> vm workstation has never worked?
<jamesbrose> nope
<daviey> Could be something wrong with conf/settings left behind with the server edition
<daviey> Is it worth trying vmplayer, to see if it works?
<jamesbrose> Yeah, will give it a go
<jamesbrose> It wouldn't bother me using vmplayer, since i've already made the vm
<daviey> jamesbrose, tbh - i use vmplayer and create my images at www.easyvmx.com
<jamesbrose> daviey, ah wow, I never new it existed :]
<jamesbrose> daviey, yay! vmplayer works fine :]
<daviey> good stuff
<daviey> I have heard that virtualpc is quite good; but i haven't tried it
<X3N_> ms virtual pc ?
<daviey> X3N_, no
