| <asgilder> After doing an apt-get install buildessentials, ./configure isn't working. | |
| <chaddy> elaborate on "not working" | |
| <asgilder> I mean it says bash: ./configure: no such file or directory. | |
| <binary2k2> asgilder: are you running it from the directory the configure script is in? | |
| <chaddy> you only need the configure step if there is a file "configure" there, sometimes they've done that for you and you just need to make a "makefile".... | |
| <asgilder> I'm trying to install rhythmbox. It says for the easiest install, cd to the directory the source code's at, and do a ./configure. | |
| <chaddy> do an "ls configure" first | |
| <asgilder> Okay...it returned a ls: configure: no such file or directory. | |
| <binary2k2> asgilder: why don't you install rhythmbox from the repositorys? | |
| <asgilder> Cuz I'm just beginning with Linux and forgot about those. | |
| <chaddy> :-) | |
| <chaddy> fair do's | |
| <asgilder> Plus, I'm trying to install the newest version. | |
| <binary2k2> you're not the only one, trust me | |
| <chaddy> I generally go: apropos, aptitude search, google | |
| <asgilder> Ah. | |
| <chaddy> is it there, is it handy, if all else fails | |
| <binary2k2> are you in the rhythmbox directory that you extracted? | |
| <asgilder> Yes. | |
| <binary2k2> what files are in there? use http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/ to post | |
| <asgilder> It's pasted. Name is asgilder | |
| <binary2k2> you have to post the url | |
| <chaddy> here | |
| <asgilder> paste.ubuntu-nl.org/36211 | |
| <asgilder> http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/36211 | |
| <chaddy> hmm, there's a makefile or to, what happens if you issue "make" | |
| <chaddy> ? | |
| <binary2k2> I aldo see "/opt/Rhythmbox/rhythmbox-0.9.6/configure" | |
| <chaddy> s/to/two | |
| <chaddy> indeedio | |
| <binary2k2> I mispelt also, guess that what guinnes dose | |
| <chaddy> depends how big a dose | |
| <binary2k2> well, 4 pints (2 with a double shot of vodka) | |
| <chaddy> yum | |
| <chaddy> my two favourite beverages | |
| <chaddy> how I wish I hadn't quit drinking | |
| <asgilder> Says no targets specified and no makefile found. stop | |
| <binary2k2> "quit drinking"; two words that don't belong together without "don't" at the begining | |
| <chaddy> do ./conf<tab> again | |
| <chaddy> does one need sudo in /opt? | |
| <binary2k2> yes | |
| <binary2k2> if you're a regular user | |
| <asgilder> Well, regardless of whether I need sudo or not, it still says no targets specified and no makefile found. | |
| <chaddy> sorry, was just typing out loud went and checked myself | |
| <chaddy> do ./conf<tab> again | |
| <asgilder> ./conf<tab>? | |
| <chaddy> tab completion is your friend | |
| <binary2k2> the configure script makes the Makefile | |
| <asgilder> Press tab, or type <tab>? | |
| <chaddy> press tab | |
| <asgilder> It just beeps at me. | |
| <chaddy> press tab again | |
| <binary2k2> press it twice | |
| <asgilder> Beeps at me everytime I press it. | |
| <binary2k2> type "ls ./conf<tab><tab>" | |
| <asgilder> I mean, I can't tab. When I press tab, it just beeps and doesn't tab over | |
| <chaddy> it's not meant to tab over | |
| <chaddy> it's meant to complete the string to save you from RSI | |
| <asgilder> Well it doesn't do anything. | |
| <chaddy> paste the output of "pwd", please? | |
| <asgilder> "?opt/rhythmbox | |
| <chaddy> don't you want to be in /opt/Rhythmbox/rhythmbox-0.9.6/ | |
| <chaddy> ?? | |
| <chaddy> nn all | |
| <binary2k2> chaddy: you off to bed? | |
| <chaddy> aye | |
| <chaddy> tis very late | |
| <binary2k2> ah well, cya soon | |
| <binary2k2> it's only 5:33, that's early :p | |
| <asgilder> Okay...that's what it was. | |
| <asgilder> I'm a dipshit. | |
| <binary2k2> :p | |
| <binary2k2> nope, just new | |
| <asgilder> Okay...well now it's giving me a parser perl module error. | |
| <chaddy> asgilder: don't worry about it | |
| <binary2k2> use pastebin agan | |
| <binary2k2> ot just install the ubuntu version from the repos :p | |
| <chaddy> or sudo aptitude install rhythm<tab><tab> | |
| <chaddy> really, though, nn ;-) | |
| <asgilder> I ran ./configure, and it said checking for XML::parser...configure: error: XML::Parser perl module is required for intltool | |
| <asgilder> I forgot how to fix that. | |
| <binary2k2> is there any readon you need the *latest* version of rhythmbox? | |
| <binary2k2> oh, nn chaddy | |
| <asgilder> Mainly to fix a thing wiht my library...I don't feel like importing my library folder by folder, and the version that's on here won't let me select multiple folders. | |
| <binary2k2> well, what's more trouble, importing your library folder by folder, or compileing it? | |
| <asgilder> Haha....importing my library, because I'm always adding to it. | |
| * chaddy returns briefly | |
| <chaddy> asgilder: edit>preferences>library>check watch library for new files | |
| <chaddy> you only need to add one folder it will recursively check it each time you start it uyp | |
| <chaddy> s/uyp/up | |
| <chaddy> so, for example, I have it watch ~/Choons | |
| <chaddy> anything I dump in ~/Choons gets added | |
| <asgilder> Yeah...just the same, I'd still rather get this done, because for some reason I like the masochistic compiling tars approach. | |
| <chaddy> it's your dependency hell | |
| <asgilder> Wow...it doesn't even import the folders. | |
| <asgilder> It jsut imports the songs taht aren't in folders. | |
| <binary2k2> have you tried "sudo apt-get build-dep rhythmbox" to get all the dependences? | |
| <asgilder> Thanks. I shall do that. | |
| <chaddy> asgilder: 6.10 ships with rhythmbox 0.9.6 | |
| <chaddy> I'm not sure you'll notice a difference | |
| <asgilder> I got 6.06 | |
| <chaddy> ahh | |
| <chaddy> scared of upgrading? | |
| <asgilder> No, just didn't have the patience to sit and download the disk images and too lazy to burn the disks. | |
| <asgilder> I'm an american, by the way. | |
| <binary2k2> you don't need the disk to upgrade | |
| <asgilder> Hence, the laziness. | |
| <asgilder> Oh? | |
| <chaddy> it's surprisingly easy | |
| <chaddy> though, I don't think I do it quite the right way | |
| <asgilder> Ah. | |
| <asgilder> Well how is it done? | |
| <binary2k2> you on gnome? | |
| <asgilder> Yeah. | |
| <binary2k2> sudo update-manager -c | |
| <chaddy> http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=227052 | |
| <chaddy> ^I use the "unofficial method" | |
| <asgilder> Soon as I get done downloading dependencies, I will do the sudo way. | |
| <chaddy> right! /me slams lid of lappy shut and slinks off to his pit | |
| <binary2k2> i'm on kubuntu, upgrade was *rough* | |
| <binary2k2> night chaddy | |
| <popey> moo | |
| <binary2k2> my god, it it morning already? | |
| <X3N> unfortunately | |
| <binary2k2> I haven't bin to bed yet | |
| <X3N> nice | |
| <X3N> this week i've had ~24 hours sleep due to insommia | |
| <binary2k2> not when I wake up, than I'll regret it :p | |
| <X3N> but i got quite drunk last night and it's fixed it | |
| <X3N> i need to find some bandwidthy things to do before the rest of the people in halls wake up | |
| <GazzaK> Morning | |
| <GazzaK> X3N, bandwidthy things - download OSX86 :-) | |
| <X3N> ^_o | |
| <GazzaK> morning jono | |
| <GazzaK> hows ya frost outside? | |
| <jono> hey | |
| <jono> not bad :) | |
| <jono> hows things? | |
| <GazzaK> it's all cold out there | |
| <GazzaK> things are good | |
| <GazzaK> I was woken up at 2am this morning though :-( | |
| <GazzaK> damn chavvy neighbours having a street fight with baseball bats | |
| <GazzaK> I cannot wait till I move away | |
| <jono> jees | |
| <jono> fight with baseball bats? | |
| <GazzaK> yeah, it's like neighbours from hell here | |
| <GazzaK> I called the ol bill | |
| <GazzaK> they were shouting, swearing, and screaming | |
| <binary2k2> nice relaxing sunday then | |
| <GazzaK> the police did a drive past and they all ran away, thank goodness | |
| <GazzaK> yeah :p | |
| <binary2k2> still haven't bin to bed, and still drinking my guinness | |
| <GazzaK> binary2k2, hows ya 'puter now? | |
| <GazzaK> still drinking, OMG, alcofrolic | |
| <binary2k2> I'm irish, it's normal :p | |
| <jono> heh | |
| <binary2k2> and my 'putter is running like a well oiled machine :p | |
| <GazzaK> yay | |
| <GazzaK> what can I get for my family for christmas? | |
| <GazzaK> I'm broke btw | |
| <binary2k2> a nice hand make card? | |
| <binary2k2> *made | |
| <binary2k2> damn, it's hard to type in my state :p | |
| <tsmithe> what can *I* get for *my* family for christmas?? | |
| <GazzaK> wooo, might have to go to bluewater today, they have a apple store to drool over | |
| <GazzaK> it's a bit late to go now isn't it? 10am, it'll be open and getting busier | |
| <GazzaK> woo, it opens at 11 | |
| <tsmithe> don't support apple and their evil drm! | |
| <GazzaK> I might go... | |
| * tsmithe doesn't care for shopping | |
| * binary2k2 apparently got recruitd to ubuntu-cafe channel | |
| <tsmithe> not another channel | |
| <tsmithe> just an #ubuntuforums clone | |
| * popey says "MOO" | |
| <anto9us> morning everyone | |
| * popey is scared to reboot his feisty based desktop for fear of breakage | |
| <anto9us> this machine barely knows what a reboot is | |
| <anto9us> if a computer's going to die, it will likely do it on a reboot, I've noticed that | |
| <anto9us> I think it's about time I upgraded this machine to edgy | |
| <binary2k2> i'm getting ready to upgrade to feisty :D | |
| <tsmithe> woo | |
| * tsmithe is already on feisty | |
| * binary2k2 had a partition set up for feisty, just has to setup sources.list | |
| <tsmithe> well, it's good so far | |
| <popey> the problem here is i use the binary nvidia driver so when the kernel gets updated and the nvidia modules are slow to catch up I end up with no x | |
| <popey> eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee ratfans! | |
| <X3N> my puter did an oopsy | |
| <popey> heh | |
| <andy101> so quiet in here today | |
| <popey> and on the list | |
| * popey pokes the list with a stick | |
| <andy101> hmm nuatilus just unexpectdly quit, easn't expecting that | |
| <X3N> that's why it's unexpectedly | |
| <jamesbrose> Whats an alternative to webmin? | |
| <chaddy> bash | |
| <chaddy> if you're using webmin, it's not too bad an app, I recommend the little book of webmin | |
| <jamesbrose> It doesnt work | |
| <X3N> <?php shell_exec('command'); ?> | |
| <jamesbrose> webmin wont instal | |
| <chaddy> what do you want it for, jamesbrose? | |
| <jamesbrose> Just to control the system when i am away | |
| <chaddy> wouldn't ssh do that for you? | |
| <jamesbrose> Erm | |
| <jamesbrose> I normally use like college machines | |
| <jamesbrose> Windows, cant install anything | |
| <jamesbrose> its better if its web based | |
| <chaddy> download putty, doesn't need installed | |
| <X3N> yeah, put it on a usb drive or something | |
| <jamesbrose> you can't run .exe's that havn't been registered with the network | |
| <jamesbrose> Pretty tight security | |
| <chaddy> so register putty | |
| <jamesbrose> I can't :] | |
| <X3N> rename it to winword.exe | |
| <jamesbrose> lolll | |
| <jamesbrose> I dont think that would work | |
| <chaddy> I wonder if that CGI:irc thing would be much good.., or is it just for irc? | |
| <andy101> wouldn't using a java based app bypass any locks on which executables run, its the Java VM thats running, ;) | |
| <andy101> all you need is to find a Java SSH client now | |
| <chaddy> good thinking, andy101 | |
| <jamesbrose> How do I use/install a cgi script in xampp? | |
| <jamesbrose> where is my C header files in edgy? | |
| *** tsmithe` is now known as tsmithe | |
| <sheepeatingtaz> andy101: http://www-h.eng.cam.ac.uk/help/pnt/mindterm/ <-- web-based java ssh. I've used it when I've had to. | |
| <tsmithe> jamesbrose, /usr/include | |
| <jamesbrose> Well, i am getting this error: http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/36276/ and i am not sure really what to do | |
| <GazzaK> wooo, burning OSX dvd :-) | |
| <X3N> do people install osx 10 on pc's yet ? | |
| <X3N> or is OSX locked to the hardware | |
| <robbo312> X3N: OS/X does run on PC's but not officially, see http://osx86project.org/ | |
| <X3N> that's quite cool | |
| <tsmithe> hi dsas | |
| <dsas> hi tsmithe | |
| * tsmithe is a bit late in his welcome | |
| <tsmithe> hi PriceChild | |
| <tsmithe> hi Yawner | |
| <Yawner> :) | |
| <PriceChild> hi | |
| <jamesbrose> Hey all | |
| <LoudMouthMan> Evening all | |
| <sheepeatingtaz> .o/ LoudMouthMan | |
| <LoudMouthMan> so Popey : it it done https://wiki.ubuntu.com/CommunityCouncilAgenda | |
| <LoudMouthMan> hey sheepeatingtaz | |
| <Zoomer> hey LoudMouthMan | |
| <LoudMouthMan> hey Zoomer, | |
| <LoudMouthMan> stylish blog man! | |
| <Zoomer> thanks | |
| <Zoomer> just need to keep up with writing stuff for it | |
| <LoudMouthMan> hheh yeah . well one page a week is all it takes.. | |
| <dsas> "Born in Elgin, Scotland, in 1971 he has not allowed this to limit his goals" heh, is elgin that bad? | |
| <LoudMouthMan> beign born in 1971 as well ! | |
| <dsas> :p | |
| <LoudMouthMan> i mean I missed the 80s and all that | |
| <LoudMouthMan> hey Jono : it is done https://wiki.ubuntu.com/CommunityCouncilAgenda | |
| <dsas> LoudMouthMan: I was kidding :p | |
| <LoudMouthMan> dsas : no probls <grin> | |
| <jono> LoudMouthMan: :) | |
| <LoudMouthMan> but I really do resent missing the 80s as a businessman .. | |
| <dsas> LoudMouthMan: Just to nitpick you thank popey for the "code below" which is actually above when the page is displayed... | |
| <Zoomer> its even harder being born 10 years later | |
| <LoudMouthMan> it is .. .bugger ! | |
| <LoudMouthMan> Zoomer . how so ? at least you had Captain Zed super space detective to carry you on ! | |
| <LoudMouthMan> heheh | |
| * popey is subscribed to the agenda page so I knew already :) | |
| <LoudMouthMan> yeah I noticed that | |
| <popey> :) | |
| <dsas> LoudMouthMan: Is there any particular ideas you have that is more likely to draw people to guadec? | |
| <Zoomer> i think captain zep passed by me with out even noticing | |
| <dsas> popey may be interested that the idea of doing gtk based development tutorials has came up. | |
| <LoudMouthMan> dsas fricking hundred .. but to be honest .. ive been putting into my compartmentalized mind to do next year, if thats okay ? | |
| <dsas> LoudMouthMan: Sure, I'd get the ideas out of your mind though :) | |
| <dsas> gtd and all that | |
| <LoudMouthMan> dsas heehh yeah thats what ive done . theres a whole tiddlywiki | |
| <LoudMouthMan> zoomer : say it aint so ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Zep_-_Space_Detective | |
| <LoudMouthMan> dsas . do you find your spending to much time trying to get ideas out quickly enough ? | |
| <LoudMouthMan> or have you found some basic idea. | |
| <dsas> I've got five squillion pieces of paper kicking around my bag/project folders/notepads, and there's still more stuff in my mind I need to get out. | |
| <popey> dsas: at our local LUG Pete Savage gave a Python + GTK tutorial | |
| <popey> was really excellent | |
| <popey> http://www.hants.lug.org.uk/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?TechTalks/2ndDecember2006 video, slides, sample code available | |
| <dsas> cool, I'll take a look. | |
| <tsmithe> how can i have a php script dynamically get the bank balance from an account? | |
| <dsas> tsmithe: uhm, I'm not sure your bank would like that | |
| <tsmithe> err? why? | |
| <LoudMouthMan> hmm on a similar note I really want to get a little ruby on rails project on the go so if anyone can point to some recommended tutorials which they feel are useful id appreciate. | |
| <tsmithe> i want a dynamic venezuela fund updater! | |
| <tsmithe> *fund status | |
| <tsmithe> at the moment, it's very static | |
| <dsas> tsmithe: Security, banks probably aren't too fond of automated log-ins. | |
| <tsmithe> http://tibsplace.co.uk/php/status-bar.php?total=4000¤t=50 | |
| <tsmithe> it's not dynamic :( | |
| <tsmithe> dsas, ah well | |
| <tsmithe> i'll have to keep giving it values | |
| <LoudMouthMan> tsmithe to do this you are best to get your bank to email or sms you the messages about your balance ( First Direct send me a Text message ) . then your going to need a GSM modem ( if i remember ) and just pick up the text messages from it , or read your email from your mail account. | |
| <tsmithe> sounds nifty | |
| <LoudMouthMan> dsas .. would a bulldog clip help to manage all those BITS of paper ! | |
| <tsmithe> LoudMouthMan, how often does it e-mail you? | |
| <dsas> LoudMouthMan: Probably, my index card size notepad has tear-off pages stuck to the top. I just need to process the A4 sized paper that gets produced through my other notepad | |
| <popey> you dont need a gsm modem, just a serial/usb cable or irda/bluetooth | |
| <LoudMouthMan> tsmith i can set that up to txt me as required. | |
| <popey> and gnokii | |
| <LoudMouthMan> dsas . ah yeah the review and process part .. which I am still trying to manage. | |
| <dsas> LoudMouthMan: http://del.icio.us/dsas/ruby+reference some of them are "just" ruby rather than rails too. | |
| <LoudMouthMan> popey: ahh yeah I was going for the direct in without need another mobile phone in the mix answer, but that works as well. I dont know if gsm was correct though and cant be arsed to check the googledex | |
| <popey> oookay | |
| <LoudMouthMan> dsas cheers.i have a new secret project I am working on . | |
| <popey> a *new* secret project? | |
| <LoudMouthMan> I once wrote a module for SDS which allowed Boots to send optical appointments and spec readiness answers direct to the patients mobile phone. where it got complicated was when they wanted to allow people to text back other stuff. | |
| <popey> as opposed to all the old secret projects | |
| <LoudMouthMan> popey : hell yeah <grin> | |
| <dsas> LoudMouthMan: #rubyonrails is reputedly pretty helpful too | |
| <LoudMouthMan> popey : youve gone and used up all the world domincation resources, and I cant get those damned bothans to find out what your up to ! so im going to have to upscale a little. | |
| <LoudMouthMan> domincation .. haaha thats so freaking freudian its unreal . | |
| <tsmithe> why's that? | |
| <tsmithe> what does it reveal? | |
| <LoudMouthMan> domination and domincian . . and his name Popey . its a religous reference . | |
| <tsmithe> hmm | |
| <tsmithe> oh | |
| <LoudMouthMan> dsas thanks for the referal on that one . | |
| <dsas> I got a book that was good too, I can't remember the name offhand, one of the pragmatic programmers series though. | |
| <dsas> I really should start playing with RoR again...so many things to play with. | |
| <LoudMouthMan> Well ive been looking into a new web app and RoR seems appropo to my requirements | |
| <jamesbrose> How can i "purge" or get rid of this broken package that wont go away | |
| <dsas> jamesbrose: does apt-get remove <package> not work? | |
| <jamesbrose> nope | |
| <dsas> or indeed apt-get purge <package> | |
| <jamesbrose> ok | |
| <dsas> jamesbrose: What errors are you getting? | |

| <dsas> I've got a C# web app to do over xmas, a mock council website focusing on a11y and i18n. Should be fun. | |
| <jamesbrose> Sorry | |
| <jamesbrose> I tryed sudo dpkg --purge package but it didnt work | |
| <jamesbrose> I just want synaptic to forget about it | |
| <jamesbrose> or remove it | |
| <jamesbrose> !! | |
| <jamesbrose> :P | |
| <X3N> try dpkg -r <package name> | |
| <jamesbrose> nope | |
| <X3N> as sudo ? | |
| <jamesbrose> im logged in as root | |
| <jamesbrose> The error is here : http://pastebin.ca/274733 | |
| <jamesbrose> anybody? | |
| <popey> ugh, nasty | |
| <X3N> --force ? | |
| <X3N> how do you manage to break it ? | |
| <popey> do you have any other updates pending? | |
| <jamesbrose> Nope | |
| <jamesbrose> I just installed it | |
| <jamesbrose> Then didnt like it | |
| <jamesbrose> so i want to install it | |
| <jamesbrose> and i get this | |
| <popey> what version of ubuntu are you on? | |
| <popey> ah, edgy | |
| <jamesbrose> yeah | |
| <popey> wget http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/k/k3d/k3d_0.6.0.0.ds1-1_i386.deb | |
| <popey> get that | |
| <popey> try to install over the top, then remove | |
| <jamesbrose> ok | |
| <popey> it mail fail to install with loads of dependancies | |
| <popey> if so | |
| <X3N> what is k3d ? | |
| <popey> X3N: apt-cache show k3d :) | |
| <X3N> done :P | |
| <jamesbrose> even bigger error | |
| <popey> ok | |

| <jamesbrose> http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/36345/ | |
| <popey> try that one | |
| <popey> hmm | |
| <popey> even that may not work | |
| <X3N> we ought to have paste.ubuntu-uk.org | |
| <jamesbrose> :((( | |
| <X3N> wished i had dns access.. and apache config write permissions | |
| <popey> ubuntu-uk.org/paste ? | |
| <X3N> yeah | |
| <jamesbrose> *eh hum* | |
| <X3N> but it'd be good if we could get planet. and paste. | |
| <popey> yeah | |
| <jamesbrose> mb something to do with python? | |
| <popey> who controls dns? surely it's do-able? | |
| <dsas> jamesbrose: It's because the package doesn't have the right fields for the new python debian/rules stuff(which is a bug) | |
| <jamesbrose> right | |
| <jamesbrose> so what can I do? | |
| <jamesbrose> apart from cry | |
| <dsas> jamesbrose: Aside from fixing the package? <grin> | |
| <jamesbrose> :[ | |
| <dsas> jamesbrose: maybe dpkg --audit or dpkg --status k3d will give more info. I don't really know. | |
| <X3N> maybe aptitude can do some magic | |
| <jamesbrose> eg..? | |
| <X3N> aptitude remove k3d | |
| <jamesbrose> Package is in a very bad inconsistent state - you should | |
| <jamesbrose> reinstall it before attempting a removal. | |
| <jamesbrose> terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::logic_error' | |
| <jamesbrose> what(): basic_string::_S_construct NULL not valid | |
| <jamesbrose> reinstall? | |
| <dsas> aptitude -f "Aggressively try to fix broken packages." | |
| <dsas> dunno, what it does, maybe it's worth a shot though. | |
| <X3N> you could try apt-get install k3d --reinstall | |
| <X3N> first | |
| <X3N> then the aptitude remove k3d | |
| <jamesbrose> nope :( | |
| <jamesbrose> Isnt there anyway of just lik etelling synaptic, it was never there | |
| <jamesbrose> because everytime i go apt-get upgrade or install anything, it want to go over k3d again | |
| <jamesbrose> found the fix here: | |

| <popey> right | |
| <popey> I want a Wii | |
| <dsas> popey: ditto :( | |
| <X3N> i've not been that impressed by it | |
| <jamesbrose> Yay! | |
| <jamesbrose> popey, SAME! | |
| <jamesbrose> Its well good | |
| <jamesbrose> I was on one yesterday | |
| <X3N> it's quite fun, but too much hassle and isn't much of an improvement | |
| <jamesbrose> meh | |
| <jamesbrose> not sure bout the graphics | |
| <jamesbrose> but it was really fun | |
| <popey> what hassle? | |
| <jamesbrose> yeah, what hassle? | |
| <jamesbrose> We set it up in about 10 minutes | |
| <X3N> having to move around | |
| <popey> hah | |
| <popey> lazy | |
| <jamesbrose> loll | |
| <dsas> I've not been a console gamer for for the last 5 years (except emulated suikoden), but the wii looks fun, a console that anyone can play at parties and stuff | |
| <jamesbrose> You can just sit there and do it | |
| <jamesbrose> we tryed it | |
| <jamesbrose> LOL, i fixed it | |
| <jamesbrose> It was just a spelling error | |
| <jamesbrose> hahaha | |
| <jamesbrose> in /var/lib/dpkg/status | |
| <dsas> (our parties inevitably degenerate to having at least four/five lads sat around FIFA | |
| <jamesbrose> taking the "s" off of "Python-Versions". | |
| <popey> yeah, i use to love goldeneye on the n64 | |
| * popey spies his n64 | |
| <X3N> you have to have the IR reciever, batteries charged in the controlers, the dodar thing connected or not, you have to be in range, you have to have the controler facing the right way, it's slow and the controler is a very acurate device also the graphics arn't worth the hype | |
| <dsas> that or someone sat obsessively playing sonic on the megadrive. | |
| <jamesbrose> meh | |
| <X3N> and you have to have space | |
| <jamesbrose> the range is actually very good | |
| <dsas> how long do the batteries last? that's something that's concerned me about the current wireless controller trend | |
| <jamesbrose> hmm | |
| <jamesbrose> quite a while | |
| <X3N> i haven't found the range to be very good | |
| <jamesbrose> really? | |
| <jamesbrose> i went upstairs and i could still box | |
| <X3N> that's not possible becuase it uses IR | |
| <jamesbrose> It did it :] | |
| <popey> no it does not | |
| <popey> it uses bluetooth for sending motion data | |
| <jamesbrose> yeah | |
| <jamesbrose> (...I knew that *cough...) | |
| <popey> it does *use* ir, but bluetooth is the transmission method | |
| <jamesbrose> so its like the range of the phone | |
| <jamesbrose> which is about that | |
| <X3N> i understand it that it uses the IR for triangulation | |
| <jamesbrose> more or less | |
| <popey> yes | |
| <popey> but some games don't use that much | |
| <X3N> so you can't move around if you're not infront of it :) | |
| <jamesbrose> anyway guys i am off | |
| <dsas> g'night jamesbrose | |
| <X3N> bye | |
| <jamesbrose> i was sitting to the side, worked pretty good | |
| <X3N> i'd be supprised if you can get 4 people playing a game which requires the use of the IR in an average living room | |
| <paulstarr> anyone here? | |
| <dsas> paulstarr: yes | |
| <paulstarr> hey ... was a silent room | |
| <paulstarr> thought i would she if anyone is about | |
| <paulstarr> a little bored you see |
