<PFA> is thre a Oo.o channel?
<Madpilot> gah, we've got this white stuff on the ground here - what's it doing off the ski hills where it belongs?
<paul___> ubuntu newbie here..saying hi
<Burgundavia> hey paul___
<Burgundavia> welcome
<paul___> thank you
<paul___> i must say i'm impressed with ubuntu as an os
<Burgundavia> I am the leader of Ubuntu Canada, so you have just fallen into my completely evil clutches
<Burgundavia> as I am sure Madpilot can attest to
<paul___> that's great..what can i say
<Burgundavia> where in Canada do you live?
<paul___> i was seduced by allthose free discs I got in the mail
<paul___> i live in Southwest Ontari
<paul___> ONtario
<paul___> Ontario, sorry
<paul___> near Windsor
<Burgundavia> ok, cool
<Burgundavia> how far from Windsor?
<Madpilot> Burgundavia, great evil leader, why the heck is our website still down?
<paul___> about 25 km
<Burgundavia> oh, right
<Burgundavia> Madpilot: let me go poke that
<Burgundavia> paul___: if you want to see how vox populi using Linux, go to the Windsor Public Library
<tonyyarusso> paul___: I'll wave when I go by next month
<paul___> oh yeah..what time and when
<Burgundavia> all the time
<Burgundavia> all of Windsors public access computers run Linux
<paul___> really I didn't know
<Burgundavia> stormont dundas and glengarry is the same
<Burgundavia> so does uwindsor
<paul___> i will have to check that out
<paul___> i was impressed at the simplicity of installation
<Madpilot> Burgundavia, site seems to be back up
<Burgundavia> just kicking the machine back up
<tonyyarusso> literally?
<Burgundavia> not literally
<tonyyarusso> Ah, the less fun but less expensive route
<Burgundavia> I actually want the machine to survive
<logick_> hello?
<Madpilot> hi
<Burgundavia> hey logick_
<logick_> this is my first time on irc
<logick_> is anyone able to help me troubleshoot a problem with mplayer plugin in firefox?
<Burgundavia> sure
<Burgundavia> however, I recommend the totem plugin
*** theCore is now known as theCore_
<logick_> had bad luck with totem too.
<Burgundavia> which video are you trying to play? which version of Ubuntu are using?
<logick_> my problem is this, when i go to the website http://www.cbc.ca/mercerreport/, I can use mplayer to view a video but after watching one it won't work to play another one until about an hour has gone by. Then it works for one again.
<logick_> I am using 6.10
<logick_> any ideas?
<Burgundavia> ok, the totem plugin works fine for me
<Burgundavia> you need all the various and sundry codecs, however
<logick_> yeah, i have all of those.
<Burgundavia> certain?
<logick_> Well I used Automatix
<Burgundavia> you need to have bad-multiverse and ugly-multiverse
<Burgundavia> ugh, automatix
<Burgundavia> automatix causes serious issues
<logick_> I just used it to install all the codecs. Maybe this is my problem?
<Burgundavia> install totem-mozilla
<logick_> Is totem-mozilla what would have been on by default?
<Burgundavia> yes
<logick_> I'll give it a try. Thanks.
<Burgundavia> install gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg, -fluendo (both of them), -bad, -ugly, -good and the multiverse variants of both ugly and bad
<Burgundavia> then choose the quicktime video over the wmv one
<logick_> I always choose quicktime. I will try your advice.
<logick_> ok, I have all of those installed. How do I force firefox to use totem-mozilla over mplayer?
<logick_> ping Burgundavia

<sfllaw> Fair enough.
<sfllaw> Also, the System 76 guys say "hi".
<Burgwork> say hi back
<sfllaw> I can't. They're gone.
<sfllaw> They told me to say hi last week.
<sfllaw> Because we're from the same country.
<sfllaw> Not last week.
<sfllaw> Woah.
<sfllaw> Three weeks ago.
<sfllaw> How time flies.
<Burgwork> indeed
<rexbron> lophyte: ping, how long is the meeting expected to last?
<bradley> does anyone know how to rename a usb drive?
<Burgwork> bradley: try looking under properties
<Burgwork> right click
<bradley> i found something in the forum called mtools which should allow me to rename the drive. it is a little complicated... but do-able.
