<Kiwistar> back again
* Kiwistar wonders what is going on with all the sirens wailing outside
<ajmitch> nice, about 28C in dunedin at the moment
<ajmitch> starting to feel like summer
<Kiwistar> It's been at around 28 odd up here in kaitaia since about 10am this morning
<hads> Yeah, lovely day today. Hopefully it stays for the weekend.
<Kiwistar> i hope so to, as it will give me a chance to get some gardening done
* Kiwistar checks the temp gauge again and finds it's steedy on 28.5 degrees
<Kiwistar> question. i have an laptop which has a single 80gb hard drive split into 2 drives of approx 35gb each. can i install linux on oneside and leave windows on the other side??
<hads> Answer. Yes.
<Kiwistar> is there any potential conflicts that i should be aware of or will it just be a smooth install, and also hows can one choose between either op sys once both are installed??
<Kiwistar> just to be difficult
<ajmitch> grub gives you the option at bootup
<ajmitch> always install windows first
<hads> Well, what's on the partitions at the moment.
<ajmitch> & then linux
<hads> And always backup first.
<hads> (but you knew that).
<ajmitch> I presume you could just wipe one partition & install linux on there
<hads> As long as Windows isn't using it.
<Kiwistar> I'd rather keep it the way it is and just install linux on d drive. I'm not the conferdent at removeing 1 partition and then installing, it's beyond my capacity at this stage
<Kiwistar> when you say back up. you me a rescue disk????
<hads> Well you have to have somewhere to install Linux.
<hads> Backup: Whatever you need to feel comfortable if something goes wrong and you destroy your current installation.
<Kiwistar> I know that if I do something wrong it could wipe out all windows and everything I have on it.
<Kiwistar> besides most of what is on d will be transfer to c and what I dont need will be wiped clean with the install
<ajmitch> you have to do all of the moving of files before you start installing ubuntu
<Kiwistar> i know other wise I lose a lot of valuable data
* Kiwistar thinks of the nice cold beer at home that is not
* Kiwistar wonders where he can upload his slightly modified wallpapers
*** ChanServ sets mode: +v kirjava
<Nameeater> edgy's handling of sessions is b0rk :(

<Jasey> always been handled nicely for moi under edgy
<Jasey> beddy
<Nameeater> hads: where is saves what programs are open it and reopens them.. well when it wants to
<hads> Oh, I never use that. Will be different for me on KDE anyway.
<Nameeater> aye
<Nameeater> might even work
<hads> I think I tried it one and it did.
<hads> s/one/once/
